Getting Started

New to American Tours? These questions will introduce our company, explain our two travel styles, and

help you decide if a professionally guided group vacation is right for you.

  • What is American Tours?

    ⭐ Both Travel Styles

American Tours is a Tyler, Texas-based travel company specializing in professionally guided group vacations throughout the United States and around the world. Since 2005, we've helped individuals, couples, and friends enjoy memorable travel experiences by offering carefully planned itineraries, quality accommodations, and personal service before, during, and after every journey.

Whether you choose one of our Motor-Coach Tours or a Fly & Ride Vacation, our goal is simple: to make travel easy, enjoyable, and worry-free while creating lasting memories along the way.

  • What types of vacation does American Tours offer?

    ⭐ Both Travel Styles

American Tours offers two distinct styles of professionally guided group vacations:

🚌 Motor-Coach Tours depart from Tyler, Texas, and include transportation aboard a comfortable motor coach, an American Tours Tour Director, and a carefully planned itinerary.

✈️ Fly & Ride Vacations include airfare and are operated in partnership with trusted companies such as Premier World Discovery and Collette Vacations. You'll fly to your destination and join a professionally guided group led by an experienced Tour Director.

No matter which travel style you choose, you'll enjoy the convenience and peace of mind that comes with traveling as part of a professionally guided group.

  • What is the difference between a Motor-Coach Tour and a Fly & Ride Vacation?

    Both Travel Styles

The biggest difference is how you reach your destination.

🚌 Motor-Coach Tours begin in Tyler, Texas, where you'll travel by motor coach with your fellow passengers for the entire journey. An American Tours Tour Director accompanies the group from departure through your return home.

✈️ Fly & Ride Vacations begin with a flight to your destination. Once you arrive, you'll join a professionally guided group led by one of our trusted travel partners. American Tours remains available to assist you before, during, and after your vacation.

Both travel styles offer professionally planned itineraries, quality accommodations, and the opportunity

to enjoy your vacation without the stress of planning every detail yourself.

  • Can I travel alone?

    Both Travel Styles

Absolutely! Many of our travelers join our vacations as solo travelers, and you'll never feel out of place. Whether you're traveling by yourself, with a spouse, or with friends, you'll be welcomed into a friendly group of travelers who share a love of exploring new places.

Traveling with a professionally guided group makes it easy to meet new people, enjoy shared experiences, and create lasting friendships along the way.

  • Who travels with American Tours?

    ⭐ Both Travel Styles

Our travelers come from many different backgrounds, but they all share one thing in common—a love of travel. Many are retired or nearing retirement, while others are still working and enjoy traveling whenever their schedules allow.

Some travel as couples, some with friends or family, and many travel on their own. Whether it's your first group vacation or you've traveled with us for years, you'll find a welcoming atmosphere and the opportunity to meet people who enjoy discovering new destinations together.

  • What are the benefits of traveling with American Tours?

    ⭐ Both Travel Styles

When you travel with American Tours, you can spend less time worrying about the details and more time enjoying your vacation. We take care of the planning—from accommodations and sightseeing to

many meals and attractions—so you can simply relax and enjoy the experience.

You'll also have the confidence of traveling with experienced professionals, the enjoyment of sharing your journey with fellow travelers, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing a real person is available before, during, and after your vacation if you ever need assistance.

Choosing the Right Tour

Every traveler is different. These questions will help you compare tour options, understand the activity

levels, and choose the vacation that best matches your interests and comfort level.

  • Which travel style is right for me?

    ⭐ Both Travel Styles

The best travel style depends on how you prefer to experience your vacation.

🚍 Motor-Coach Tours are ideal for travelers who enjoy relaxing while someone else does the driving. You'll travel with the same group from beginning to end, enjoy the scenery along the way, and have an American Tours Tour Director with you throughout the journey.

✈️ Fly & Ride Vacations are perfect for travelers who want to reach destinations more quickly or explore places that are best experienced by air. After arriving at your destination, you'll join a professionally guided group led by one of our trusted travel partners.

No matter which style you choose, you'll enjoy a professionally planned itinerary, quality accommodations, and the peace of mind that comes from traveling with experienced professionals.

  • How do I know if a tour is right for me?

    Both Travel Styles

Every tour includes detailed information to help you decide if it's a good fit for your interests and abilities. We encourage you to review the itinerary, activity level, included meals, accommodations, and overall pace of the tour before registering.

If you're still unsure, we'd be happy to discuss the tour with you and help you determine whether it's the right choice for your travel style and expectations.

  • What are Activity Levels?

    Both Travel Styles

Every American Tours vacation includes an Activity Level to help you understand the amount of walking, standing, stairs, and overall physical activity you can expect during your trip.

Before registering, we encourage you to carefully review the Activity Level for each tour and honestly consider your own comfort level and mobility. Choosing a tour that matches your abilities will help ensure you have the most enjoyable vacation possible.

  • What if I have mobility limitations or use a walker, wheelchair, or scooter?

    Both Travel Styles

We want every traveler to have an enjoyable vacation. Before registering, please carefully review the tour's Activity Level and daily itinerary to determine whether the tour is a good match for your abilities and comfort level.

Many of our tours include walking, standing, stairs, uneven surfaces, and locations where elevators or accessibility accommodations may be limited. Because our vacations operate on a scheduled itinerary, all travelers should be able to maintain the pace of the group throughout the tour.

    🚍 Motor-Coach Tours

Passengers are welcome to bring a folding walker, which can be stored in the motor coach's luggage compartment when not in use.

At this time, wheelchairs and mobility scooters cannot be accommodated on our Motor-Coach Tours due to vehicle storage limitations and the varying accessibility of tour destinations.

    ✈️ Fly & Ride Vacations

Accessibility accommodations vary by airline, hotel, attraction, and destination. If you have mobility concerns or use a mobility aid, please contact our office before registering. We'll be happy to discuss the specific tour and help you determine whether it is a good fit for your needs.

If you have questions about your mobility or whether a particular tour is appropriate for you, please contact our office before registering. We're always happy to discuss the itinerary and help you make an informed decision.

  • How much walking should I expect?

    ⭐ Both Travel Styles

The amount of walking varies from one tour to another. Some vacations involve only light walking, while others may include extended periods of walking, uneven sidewalks, stairs, or standing for longer periods.

The best way to determine what to expect is to review the tour's Activity Level and daily itinerary. If you have concerns about the amount of walking on a particular tour, please contact our office before registering.

  • How much free time is included on your tours?

     Both Travel Styles

Every tour is designed to provide a balance between organized sightseeing and personal free time. The amount of free time varies depending on the destination and itinerary.

Some days are filled with included sightseeing, while others allow time to shop, explore on your own, relax, or enjoy optional activities. Your itinerary will indicate when free time has been scheduled.

  • Do I need to be in good physical condition?

    Both Travel Styles

No. You don't need to be an athlete to enjoy our vacations. However, you should be able to comfortably participate in the activities included on your chosen tour.

Before registering, we encourage you to carefully review the tour's Activity Level and daily itinerary. Choosing a vacation that matches your physical abilities will help you enjoy the experience from beginning to end.

If you're unsure whether a tour is appropriate for you, please contact our office. We'll be happy to discuss the itinerary and answer your questions.

Booking Your Tour

Ready to reserve your spot? Here you'll find answers about registration, deposits, payments, waitlists, and the booking process.

  • How do I register for a tour?

    Both Travel Styles

Registering for an American Tours vacation is easy! We offer several convenient ways to reserve your spot:

    • Register online through our secure website.

    • Complete and mail a printed Reservation Form.

    • Contact our office, and we'll be happy to assist you with the registration process.

Once your registration and deposit are received, you'll receive an email confirmation of your reservation along with additional information about your upcoming vacation.

  • How will I know my reservation is confirmed?

    Both Travel Styles

Once your reservation has been entered into our system and your payment has been successfully processed, you'll receive a Reservation Confirmation by email. Your confirmation will include your reservation details, payment received, remaining balance (if applicable), and other important information about your upcoming vacation.

If you register online, your confirmation is typically emailed within minutes after your payment is approved.

If you register by phone or mail, we'll enter your reservation into our system and email your confirmation as soon as your payment has been processed.

Travelers who do not have an email address may request that a printed confirmation be mailed to them.

If you have any questions about your reservation, please don't hesitate to contact our office. We're always happy to help.

  • How much is the deposit?

The required deposit varies by tour and is listed on each tour's brochure and online reservation page.

Your reservation is not considered confirmed until your required deposit has been received.

  • Can I make payments on my reservation?

    Both Travel Styles

Yes. Most travelers make payments over time rather than waiting until the final payment due date.

You may make payments whenever it is convenient for you, provided your tour is paid in full by the published Final Payment Due Date.

There is no additional charge for making multiple payments.

  • When is final payment due?

    Both Travel Styles

Every tour has a specific Final Payment Due Date, which is listed on the tour brochure, reservation page, and your reservation confirmation.

To avoid cancellation of your reservation, your remaining balance must be received by the published due date.

  • How can I pay for my reservation?

    Both Travel Styles

American Tours offers several convenient payment options.

    Cash

Cash payments are accepted in person at our Tyler office. Once your payment has been received, we'll email you a confirmation showing your updated account balance.

    Personal Check

Personal checks are accepted whether you register online, by mail, or in person. Check payments are processed electronically as an ACH (Bank Draft) transaction.

    • No processing fee

    • Typically clears within 4–6 business days

    Credit Cards

We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express for online registrations, mail-in registrations, and payments made over the phone.

Processing fees apply to credit card payments. Please see the next question for details.

  • Why is there a credit card processing fee?

    Both Travel Styles

Credit card companies charge a processing fee every time a credit card payment is accepted. Rather than building those costs into the price of every tour, American Tours has chosen to keep our tour prices as low as possible by applying the processing fee only to travelers who choose to pay by credit card.

Travelers who pay by cash or personal check (processed electronically as an ACH bank draft) do not pay a processing fee.

    Current processing fees are:

    • Visa: 2.9%

    • MasterCard: 2.9%

    • Discover: 2.9%

    • American Express: 3.9%

If you have questions about payment options, our office will be happy to help you choose the option that works best for you.

  • What is a Wait List?

When the tour is full, additional reservations are placed on a Wait List.

Being placed on a Wait List does not guarantee a reservation, but openings do occasionally become available if another traveler cancels.

If space becomes available, we'll contact travelers on the Wait List as soon as possible.

  • Can I change or transfer my reservation?

    🚍 Motor-Coach Tours

Because American Tours operates our own Motor-Coach Tours, we can often accommodate reservation changes, particularly before the Final Payment Due Date and when space is still available.

Depending on the situation, we may be able to:

    • Change room occupancy (for example, from triple occupancy to double occupancy or vice versa)

    • Add or remove a traveler from a reservation

    • Transfer payments to another traveler taking the original traveler's place

    • Make other reservation adjustments when operationally possible

Please note that changes in room occupancy may result in a change to the tour price, and any additional balance due or refund will be calculated based on the current published tour rates.

If your plans change, we encourage you to contact our office as soon as possible. We'll do everything we reasonably can to help.

    ✈️ Fly & Ride Vacations

Fly & Ride Vacations are operated by our travel partners, including Premier World Discovery and Collette Vacations, and frequently include airline reservations.

Because of this, reservation changes are governed by the policies of the tour operator, the airline, and other travel suppliers. Depending on the type and timing of the requested change, revision fees, supplier fees, airline penalties, or fare differences may apply. In some cases, a requested change may be treated as a cancellation under the supplier's terms and conditions.

Pricing & What's Included

Wondering what's included in the price of your vacation? This section explains accommodations, meals, admissions, gratuities, and other important pricing details.

  • What is included in the tour price?

    Both Travel Styles

Each tour includes a variety of features that are clearly listed on the tour brochure and reservation page. Depending on the tour, your price may include:

    • Hotel accommodations

    • Transportation during the tour

    • Included meals

    • Sightseeing and attraction admissions

    • Professional Tour Director services

    • Baggage handling (where available)

    • Taxes and applicable fees included by the tour operator

Because every vacation is unique, we encourage you to review the specific inclusions listed for your selected tour.

  • What is not included in the tour price?

    Both Travel Styles

While many vacation expenses are included, travelers should also budget for personal expenses such as:

    • Meals not listed as included

    • Personal shopping

    • Optional excursions

    • Travel insurance or Cancellation Protection (when purchased separately)

    • Tour Director and Driver gratuities (where applicable)

    • Personal expenses such as laundry, room service, or beverages

Each tour brochure outlines what is included so you can plan accordingly.

  • Why are the different prices for Single, Double, Triple, and Quad Occupancy?

    Both Travel Styles

Tour pricing is based primarily on the number of travelers sharing a hotel room.

    • Single Occupancy — One traveler in one room

    • Double Occupancy — Two travelers sharing one room

    • Triple Occupancy — Three travelers sharing one room

    • Quad Occupancy — Four travelers sharing one room

Because hotel costs are shared among more travelers, the per-person price generally decreases as additional occupants share the room.

  • As a single traveler, do I have to share a room with another traveler?

    Both Travel Styles

No. If you're traveling alone, you're welcome to reserve a Single Occupancy room and enjoy your own private accommodations.

If you're traveling with family or friends, you may choose Double, Triple, or Quad Occupancy, depending on the room configurations available for your selected tour.

While we understand that some solo travelers hope to share a room to reduce the cost of their vacation, American Tours does not match travelers with roommates or arrange room-sharing between individuals who are not already traveling together.

Because every traveler has different personalities, habits, and expectations, we cannot guarantee that two individuals who have never met will be compatible as roommates. To help ensure every traveler has the best possible vacation experience, we encourage room-sharing arrangements only between family members, friends, or traveling companions who already know one another.

  • Are airfare and airport transfers included?

    🚍 Motor-Coach Tours

Motor-Coach Tours depart from Tyler, Texas. Since airfare is not required, flights are not included.

    ✈️ Fly & Ride Vacations

Airfare is included in all Fly & Ride Vacations.

For departures beginning January 1, 2027, transportation between your home and your selected departure airport is available as an optional add-on for an additional fee. Details are provided for each applicable tour.

  • Are gratuities included?

    🚍 Motor-Coach Tours

American Tours includes nearly all gratuities associated with your vacation. The only gratuities not included are those for your Tour Director and Driver. Gratuity guidelines are provided before departure.

    ✈️ Fly & Ride Vacations

Gratuity policies vary by tour operator. Please refer to your tour brochure or contact our office for details regarding your specific vacation.

  • Are optional excursions included?

    Both Travel Styles

Some vacations offer optional excursions or activities that are not included in the published tour price.

Participation is always optional, and you'll receive information about any available optional excursions before or during your vacation.

  • Will the tour price change after I book?

    Both Travel Styles

Once your reservation is confirmed, your tour price is generally locked in based on the published pricing and your selected room occupancy.

If you later request changes to your reservation—such as changing room occupancy or modifying your travel arrangements—your price may change based on the updated reservation details.

If a change affects your tour price, we'll explain any additional charges or applicable refunds before making the needed adjustment.

When the tour is full, additional reservations are placed on a Wait List.

Being placed on a Wait List does not guarantee a reservation, but openings do occasionally become available if another traveler cancels.

If space becomes available, we'll contact travelers on the Wait List as soon as possible.

Before You Travel

Once your tour is booked, these questions will help you prepare for departure, including packing, travel documents, luggage, and other pre-trip information.

  • When will I receive my travel documents?

    Both Travel Styles

Travel documents are generally sent approximately three weeks before departure.

For most tours, your travel documents are delivered by FedEx and include important information such as your itinerary, hotel information, luggage tags (when applicable), emergency contact information, and other helpful travel details to prepare you for your vacation.

If you have not received your travel documents within two weeks of departure, please contact the American Tours office so we can assist you.

  • What should I pack?

    Both Travel Styles

Packing recommendations vary depending on your destination, the season, and the activities included on your tour.

We recommend packing comfortable clothing, comfortable walking shoes, any necessary medications, and personal items you'll need during your vacation.

As your departure date approaches, you'll receive additional information to help you prepare for your specific tour.

  • What documents will I need?

    Both Travel Styles

The travel documents you'll need depend on your destination and travel style.

For most domestic tours, you'll need a valid government-issued photo ID. If your tour includes airline travel, you should ensure your identification meets current TSA requirements. Some destinations may require a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or another acceptable form of identification.

For international tours, a valid passport—and in some cases, additional travel documents—may be required.

If you're ever unsure about what documentation is needed for your vacation, American Tours will be happy to assist you before departure.

  • How much luggage can I bring?

    🚍 Motor-Coach Tours

Because luggage is stored in the luggage compartment beneath the motor coach, travelers are generally asked to limit themselves to one full-size suitcase and one small carry-on item per person unless otherwise noted.

    ✈️ Fly & Ride Vacations

Luggage allowances are determined by the airline and may vary depending on your carrier, destination, and ticket type. Any applicable airline baggage fees are the responsibility of the traveler.

  • Can I bring a CPAP machine or other medical equipment?

    Both Travel Styles

Yes. Travelers are welcome to bring a CPAP machine or other personal medical equipment needed during their vacation.

If your equipment requires electricity, we recommend bringing any necessary power cords, extension cords, batteries, or accessories you may need while traveling.

If you have questions about traveling with medical equipment or believe your equipment may require special accommodations, please contact the American Tours office before departure. We'll be happy to discuss your specific situation and explain what accommodations may be available.

  • What if I have dietary restrictions?

     Both Travel Styles

Many restaurants and hotels can accommodate common dietary requests; however, accommodations cannot be guaranteed.

If you have dietary restrictions or food allergies, please let us know when you make your reservation so we can share that information with our tour partners whenever possible.

We also recommend reminding your Tour Director and restaurant staff during the tour whenever appropriate.

  • What if I take prescription medications?

    Both Travel Styles

Please bring enough prescription medications to last your entire vacation, plus a few extra days in case of unexpected travel delays.

Keep all medications in their original labeled containers and pack them in your carry-on bag or personal item rather than in checked luggage whenever possible.

  • Should I tell American Tours about medical conditions or special needs?

    Both Travel Styles

Yes. If you have a medical condition, allergy, or other special need that could affect your travel experience, we encourage you to let us know before departure.

While American Tours cannot provide medical care during your vacation, knowing about important medical conditions or special needs allows us to better assist you and communicate relevant information to our Tour Director or travel partners when appropriate.

If you're unsure whether something should be shared, we encourage you to contact our office before your trip. We're happy to discuss your individual situation and answer any questions you may have.

  • Will I receive additional information before departure?

     Both Travel Styles

Yes. American Tours communicates with travelers throughout the months leading up to departure.

Depending on the tour, you may receive payment reminders, travel preparation information, packing suggestions, final travel documents, and other helpful updates designed to make your vacation as enjoyable and stress-free as possible.

  • Who should I contact if I have questions before my trip?

    Both Travel Styles

If you have questions before departure, simply contact the American Tours office.

Whether you have questions about your reservation, payments, packing, travel documents, or your itinerary, we're here to help before, during, and after your journey.

    ✈️ Fly & Ride Vacations

Approximately 24–48 hours before departure, you'll also receive the name, cell phone number, and email address of the Professional Tour Director assigned to your vacation. While American Tours remains available to assist you, you'll also have direct contact information for the Tour Director who will be leading your group throughout your trip.

During Your Vacation

Learn what to expect while you're traveling, from Tour Directors and daily schedules to free time and assistance during your journey.

  • Who will be my Tour Director?

    🚍 Motor-Coach Tours

An experienced American Tours Tour Director will accompany your group from Tyler and remain with you throughout the vacation. Your Tour Director is there to assist with daily activities, answer questions, coordinate logistics, and help ensure you have an enjoyable travel experience.

    ✈️ Fly & Ride Vacations

Your vacation will be led by a Professional Tour Director provided by our travel partner. Approximately 24–48 hours before departure, you'll receive the name, cell phone number, and email address of the Tour Director assigned to your vacation.

When you arrive at your destination, either your Tour Director or a member of their team will meet you at the designated arrival location. For most domestic vacations, this is typically near the airport baggage claim area. For international vacations, you'll usually be greeted just outside the Customs exit after you've collected your luggage and cleared Customs.

  • How are seats assigned?

    🚍 Motor-Coach Tours

Motor coach seats are assigned by American Tours before departure on a first reserved, first assigned basis, with seating generally assigned from the front of the coach toward the back.

Whenever possible, we try to avoid seating two single travelers together. However, when a tour is full, this may not always be possible. Once assigned, your seat will generally remain the same throughout the vacation unless your Tour Director determines that a seating adjustment is necessary.

To ensure fairness for all travelers, seating assignments are not adjusted based on individual seat location preferences or requests. If you experience motion sickness or another medical concern while traveling, we encourage you to speak with your physician before departure about options that may help make your journey more comfortable.

    ✈️ Fly & Ride Vacations

Airline seat assignments are arranged by the airline and may vary based on the airline's policies and availability. Travelers who register together are generally assigned seats together on their flights whenever possible.

Approximately three weeks before departure, you'll receive your flight information with your travel documents. At that time, you may log into the airline's website or mobile app to purchase seat upgrades or request seat changes, subject to the airline's availability and policies. Any upgrade or seat selection fees are paid directly to the airline.

Once you arrive at your destination, motor coach seating is assigned by our travel partner and Tour Director for the duration of the tour.

  • How often are rest stops made?

    🚍 Motor-Coach Tours

Passenger comfort is important to us. Rest stops are generally scheduled approximately every 2 to 2½ hours, although the timing may vary depending on road conditions, traffic, and available facilities.

Additional stops are also scheduled for meals, sightseeing, and overnight accommodations.

    ✈️ Fly & Ride Vacations

Rest stops vary depending on your itinerary and mode of transportation.

  • What happens if the itinerary changes?

    Both Travel Styles

While every effort is made to operate the itinerary exactly as planned, occasional changes may be necessary due to weather, traffic, construction, attraction schedules, operational needs, or other circumstances beyond our control.

If changes become necessary, your Tour Director will keep you informed and work to ensure you continue to have an enjoyable vacation experience.

  • Will there be free time during the tour?

    🚍 Motor-Coach Tours

Yes. Most Motor-Coach Tours include a combination of guided sightseeing and scheduled free time to relax, explore on your own, shop, or enjoy a meal.

If you choose to visit locations outside the immediate area during your free time, you're responsible for arranging and paying for your own transportation. Please be sure to return to the designated meeting location at the time provided by your Tour Director so the group can remain on schedule.

    ✈️ Fly & Ride Vacations

Yes. Fly & Ride Vacations also include opportunities to enjoy free time throughout your vacation. Depending on the destination, you may choose to explore nearby attractions, shop, dine, or simply relax.

Transportation options during free time vary by destination. Your Tour Director will explain the transportation options available at each location and can provide guidance on the best ways to explore the area. If you choose activities outside the scheduled itinerary, any associated transportation costs are your responsibility.

  • Can I purchase alcohol during the tour?

    Both Travel Styles

Yes. Travelers are welcome to purchase alcoholic beverages during meals, free time, or at other appropriate locations where they are legally available.

We simply ask that all travelers drink responsibly and be respectful of fellow passengers throughout the vacation.

  • What if I become ill during my vacation?

    Both Travel Styles

If you become ill during your vacation, please notify your Tour Director as soon as possible. While Tour Directors cannot provide medical care, they can assist you in locating medical services, communicating with local providers, and helping you understand your available options whenever possible.

Because this is a professionally guided Group Vacation, your Tour Director's primary responsibility is to the group as a whole and keeping the vacation on its scheduled itinerary. While every reasonable effort will be made to assist you, there may be situations where you or your traveling companion must make independent arrangements for medical care, transportation, or other services.

Any medical expenses or related costs incurred during your vacation are the responsibility of the traveler.

  • Who do I contact if I need assistance during my vacation?

    🚍 Motor-Coach Tours

Your American Tours Tour Director will be traveling with the group throughout the vacation and is your primary point of contact during the tour. They are there to answer questions, assist with daily activities, and help ensure you have an enjoyable travel experience.

    ✈️ Fly & Ride Vacations

Your Professional Tour Director will accompany your group throughout the vacation (at destination) and will be your primary point of contact while traveling. American Tours also remains available if you need additional assistance during your trip.

  • What if I have an emergency while traveling?

    Both Travel Styles

If you experience an emergency during your vacation, notify your Tour Director immediately. They can help coordinate assistance and provide guidance based on the situation.

If family members need to reach you during your trip, they may also contact the American Tours office. If the office is closed, emergency contact information provided in your travel documents can be used when appropriate.

Changes, Cancellations & Protection

Plans sometimes change. This section explains cancellation policies, optional protection plans, refunds, and what happens if unexpected circumstances affect your trip.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

    Both Travel Styles

Cancellation policies vary depending on the type of vacation you've reserved.

Motor-Coach Tours and Fly & Ride Vacations each have their own cancellation schedules, deadlines, and refund policies. We encourage you to carefully review the Cancellation Policy provided for your specific vacation before making your reservation.

If you have questions about your cancellation policy, the American Tours office will be happy to explain it before you register.

  • Should I purchase Pre-Trip Cancellation Protection or Travel Protection?

    🚍 Motor-Coach Tours

We strongly encourage you to protect your vacation investment.

American Tours offers Optional Pre-Trip Cancellation Protection for our Motor-Coach Tours. This optional protection is designed to help protect your investment if you need to cancel your vacation before departure, subject to the terms and conditions of the plan.

    ✈️ Fly & Ride Vacations

We also strongly encourage travelers on Fly & Ride Vacations to purchase Travel Protection. Travel Protection is offered through our travel partners and may include benefits that extend beyond pre-trip cancellation, depending on the plan selected.

Whether you purchase the protection offered through American Tours or our travel partners—or obtain comparable coverage through another insurance provider—we strongly recommend that every traveler have some form of travel protection before departure.

Before purchasing any protection plan, we encourage you to carefully review the plan's benefits, terms, conditions, exclusions, and coverage limitations to ensure it meets your travel needs.

  • What happens if I have to cancel my reservation?

    Both Travel Styles

If you need to cancel your reservation, please contact the American Tours office as soon as possible.

Any applicable refunds or cancellation charges will be determined according to the cancellation policy for your specific vacation and the date your cancellation is received.

  • What happens if American Tours cancels a trip?

  • How are seats assigned on motor-coach tours?

Seat assignments are made at the start of your tour and will remain consistent throughout your journey. Assignments are typically determined by the order in which registrations are received. We do our best to seat friends and family members together, though specific seat requests depend on availability. Seat rotation is not implemented on motor-coach tours.
  • Can I request a specific seat on the motor-coach?

You're welcome to share your seating preferences when you register for your tour. Seat assignments typically follow registration order, with those who register earlier receiving priority for their preferred locations. We'll make every reasonable effort to honor your seating requests, though we cannot guarantee specific seat assignments. If you're prone to motion sickness, we recommend taking appropriate preventative steps before traveling, as seating changes may not always be feasible once the tour is underway.
  • Are gratuities included?

Gratuity practices differ depending on the type of tour you've selected. For motor-coach tours, you'll receive guidance on recommended gratuities for your tour guide and driver before your departure. For fly and ride tours, gratuity guidelines are set by the tour operator and will be detailed in your tour documents.
  • What are the smoking and alcohol policies on motor-coach tours?

Smoking and e-cigarettes are prohibited on all transportation vehicles and during group gatherings throughout American Tours packages. Guests are welcome to consume alcoholic beverages responsibly in appropriate settings; however, disruptive conduct or intoxication won't be permitted. American Tours maintains the right to intervene when behavior compromises the safety, comfort, or experience of the group.
  • What is the luggage allowance?

Luggage policies and guidelines depend on the type of tour you've booked. For motor-coach tours, guests can generally bring one standard suitcase plus one smaller carry-on item per person. For fly and ride tours, baggage allowances are governed by the airline and the ticket type you've purchased. Additional fees, weight limits, and airline-specific restrictions may apply. Your tour information materials will include detailed luggage guidelines specific to your trip.
  • Can I travel alone?

Absolutely. Many of our guests travel on their own and appreciate the warm, inviting environment that American Tours provides. Single accommodations can be arranged on most tours for an additional single supplement charge.
  • What happens if a tour does not meet minimum participation?

American Tours maintains the right to cancel a tour when minimum participation levels aren't reached. Should this occur, we'll notify affected guests at the earliest opportunity and present alternative tour options when available, or provide a complete refund of all payments made for that departure.
  • Who is responsible for personal belongings?

You're responsible for your personal belongings throughout your tour. Though we work to ensure your luggage and property are handled with care, American Tours and its travel partners can't accept responsibility for items that are lost, stolen, or left unattended.
  • Are the tours physically demanding?

American Tours designs its tours for active senior adults and requires a moderate degree of physical activity. Participants should be in reasonably good health and capable of walking reasonable distances, climbing stairs, standing for extended periods, and navigating uneven terrain such as sidewalks, historic locations, and attractions. Every tour includes an activity level rating that should be carefully reviewed before you register. If you have concerns regarding mobility or physical demands, we encourage you to reach out to American Tours before completing your registration.
  • Can I bring a walker, wheelchair, or mobility scooter?

Due to constraints related to transportation, storage, and itinerary design, we're unable to accommodate motorized scooters and wheelchairs on our tours. While fold-up walkers may physically fit on certain motor-coach tours, our itineraries aren't structured for travelers requiring mobility assistance. Guests who depend on walkers or have mobility challenges may find the activity level and pace difficult to manage. All participants must be able to handle their own mobility throughout the tour without requiring assistance from staff or fellow travelers. If you have questions about whether a particular tour is suitable for your needs, we strongly recommend contacting American Tours before you register.
