FAQs
American Tours
How are seats assigned on motor-coach tours?
Seat assignments are made at the start of your tour and will remain consistent throughout your journey. Assignments are typically determined by the order in which registrations are received. We do our best to seat friends and family members together, though specific seat requests depend on availability. Seat rotation is not implemented on motor-coach tours. Can I request a specific seat on the motor-coach?
You're welcome to share your seating preferences when you register for your tour. Seat assignments typically follow registration order, with those who register earlier receiving priority for their preferred locations. We'll make every reasonable effort to honor your seating requests, though we cannot guarantee specific seat assignments. If you're prone to motion sickness, we recommend taking appropriate preventative steps before traveling, as seating changes may not always be feasible once the tour is underway. Are gratuities included?
Gratuity practices differ depending on the type of tour you've selected. For motor-coach tours, you'll receive guidance on recommended gratuities for your tour guide and driver before your departure. For fly and ride tours, gratuity guidelines are set by the tour operator and will be detailed in your tour documents. What are the smoking and alcohol policies on motor-coach tours?
Smoking and e-cigarettes are prohibited on all transportation vehicles and during group gatherings throughout American Tours packages. Guests are welcome to consume alcoholic beverages responsibly in appropriate settings; however, disruptive conduct or intoxication won't be permitted. American Tours maintains the right to intervene when behavior compromises the safety, comfort, or experience of the group. What is the luggage allowance?
Luggage policies and guidelines depend on the type of tour you've booked. For motor-coach tours, guests can generally bring one standard suitcase plus one smaller carry-on item per person. For fly and ride tours, baggage allowances are governed by the airline and the ticket type you've purchased. Additional fees, weight limits, and airline-specific restrictions may apply. Your tour information materials will include detailed luggage guidelines specific to your trip. Can I travel alone?
Absolutely. Many of our guests travel on their own and appreciate the warm, inviting environment that American Tours provides. Single accommodations can be arranged on most tours for an additional single supplement charge. What happens if a tour does not meet minimum participation?
American Tours maintains the right to cancel a tour when minimum participation levels aren't reached. Should this occur, we'll notify affected guests at the earliest opportunity and present alternative tour options when available, or provide a complete refund of all payments made for that departure.Who is responsible for personal belongings?
You're responsible for your personal belongings throughout your tour. Though we work to ensure your luggage and property are handled with care, American Tours and its travel partners can't accept responsibility for items that are lost, stolen, or left unattended. Are the tours physically demanding?
American Tours designs its tours for active senior adults and requires a moderate degree of physical activity. Participants should be in reasonably good health and capable of walking reasonable distances, climbing stairs, standing for extended periods, and navigating uneven terrain such as sidewalks, historic locations, and attractions. Every tour includes an activity level rating that should be carefully reviewed before you register. If you have concerns regarding mobility or physical demands, we encourage you to reach out to American Tours before completing your registration. Can I bring a walker, wheelchair, or mobility scooter?
Due to constraints related to transportation, storage, and itinerary design, we're unable to accommodate motorized scooters and wheelchairs on our tours. While fold-up walkers may physically fit on certain motor-coach tours, our itineraries aren't structured for travelers requiring mobility assistance. Guests who depend on walkers or have mobility challenges may find the activity level and pace difficult to manage. All participants must be able to handle their own mobility throughout the tour without requiring assistance from staff or fellow travelers. If you have questions about whether a particular tour is suitable for your needs, we strongly recommend contacting American Tours before you register.
